Caroline Veldkamp

Caroline (Kort) Veldkamp entered heaven’s open door on January 6, 2024, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 91. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024 in The Reformed Church, Dell Rapids. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Caroline was born June 14, 1932, near Leota, MN, to Jacob and Jacoba (VanSurksum) Kort.

She grew up on a farm near Leota and attended Edgerton Christian School. On October 10, 1950, she married Markus (Mike) Veldkamp, and they were blessed with 5 children. They worked for a farmer by Heron Lake for 1 year and then farmed on their own by Edgerton until 1966 when they moved to Trent, SD. They farmed there until 1986 when they moved into Dell Rapids. Mike passed away in 1988, and Caroline continued to live in Dells until 2019 when she moved to Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls. 

Caroline was an active member of Dell Rapids Reformed Church and Reformed Church Women. Her faith in Jesus guided her throughout life. She worked hard as a farmwife and also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, painting and reading. Most of all, she loved being a mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Truly blessed to have shared her life are her children Glenda (Gayle) Wilts, Connie (Rick) LaLonde, Rick (Gail) Veldkamp, Ken (Holly) Veldkamp, Cindy (Dave) Schuch; 18 grandchildren Kory Wilts, Kelly (Jeremy) Lemcke, Michelle (Jeff) Nelson, Jason (April) Beyer, Nathan (Jen) Beyer, Ryan (Alex) Beyer, Lance (Jen) LaLonde, Nate (Kat) LaLonde, Jordan (MyLinh) LaLonde, Bethany (Paul) Sisler, Nicole Veldkamp, Derick Veldkamp, Keith (Jen) Veldkamp, Craig (Megan) Veldkamp, Mandi (Chris) VanLiere, Alicia (Jacob) Daum, Danielle (Jon) Hart, Jeffrey (Grace) Schuch; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Frances Veldkamp, Hendrene VanWyhe, Grace (Lou) Charette, Arlene (Norman) Haak; and brothers-in-law Marv Veldkamp, Alvin (Shirley) Veldkamp.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mike; parents Jacob and Jacoba Kort; sisters Jeanette Kort, Margaret (Abe) Gunnink, Anna (John) Gunnink; brother Marion Kort; son-in-law Ron Beyer; great-granddaughter Lauren Nelson; father and mother-in-law Arend and Minnie Veldkamp; mother-in-law Angie Veldkamp; sisters-in-law Alice (Al) VanHill, Clazina (Hank) VanWyhe, Leona Veldkamp; brothers-in-law Bert (Joyce) Veldkamp, Jim Veldkamp, and Arnie Veldkamp.
