Darla J. Halvorson

Darla J. Halvorson, 64, of Trent, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at the Sanford USD Medical Center and Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Willow Creek Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home.

Darla was born on November 11, 1959, the daughter of Melvin and Sharleen (Jenson) Erickson. She grew up west of Dell Rapids and attended school in Tri-Valley. She graduated from Tri-Valley High School in 1978. After high school she married the love of her life, Duane Halvorson on December 30, 1978. The couple made their home in Texas for a couple of years before moving to Trent. Darla stayed at home and raised their three children. When her children were school age she started working for Hutchinson Technology. She later did booking keeping for her husband’s business H & H Hauling and worked at Lil Bugs Daycare.

Darla was always volunteering to help with family gatherings or any social event. She enjoyed her accessories, always having a style of her own. She cherished the holidays and spending time with family. Her passion was traveling with Duane and spending time at her “happy place,” the Black Hills.

She is preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Duane of Trent; her children, Christina (Nathan) Edsall of Pella, IA, Craig Halvorson of Trent and Courtney (Kory Krempges) of Trent; her grandchildren, Abigail, Zachary, Amaya and Nolan;  her siblings, Denise (Terry) Anderson of Trent, Dwane (Lori) Erickson of Trent and Dawn Erickson of Lacey, WA; her life-long friend, Kristi Bietz and her extended family and many friends.
