Lonnie D. Johnson

Lonnie D. Johnson, 51, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Private family services were held.

Lonnie was born on December 11, 1972 in Sioux Falls, SD, the son of Lyle and Janice Leigh (Heyer) Johnson. He grew up in Sioux Falls and attended school at Garfield Elementary, Emerson School and graduated from Washington High School. After high school he lived in various group homes in the Black Hills, Yankton and Madison. He was currently living in his own apartment at Valiant Living in Madison at the time of his death.

He was involved with the Special Olympics, enjoyed time spent with his family and had a special bond with his nephew Shayne Wendt. He liked cars, his tattoos, bowling, playing cards and going on car rides. He always enjoyed quality time with people.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his siblings, Jamie (Beverly) Johnson of Dell Rapids and Robin Severson of Sioux Falls; his nephews, Kyle (Jung-Hee) Johnson of Redmond, WA and Shayne Wendt of Sioux Falls; his niece, Gayle Johnson of Sioux Falls and his special friends, Ken “Bones” and Audrey “Skin” Rol.
