Marcella A Rave

Marcella A. Rave, 92, of Dell Rapids passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls. Her Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024 with the Christian Wake beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home.

Marcella Ann Ahlers was born on January 2, 1932 northwest of Dell Rapids, SD, the daughter of Joe and Pauline (Bricher) Ahlers. She grew up on the farm and attended St. Mary grade and high school graduating in 1949. She married Bertus Rave on November 17, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. The couple made their home on a farm east of Dell Rapids and raised nine children. Bertus passed away on January 23, 1970. Marcella remained on the farm for many years before moving into town in 1994. She moved to Orchard Hills Assisted Living in July of 2021.

She was a member of St. Mary Church, Altar Society and volunteered at Padre’s. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary and of Fof club (Faithfully Old Farts). She worked many jobs doing cleaning and at the mink farm.  She enjoyed her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Marcella is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Phillip, four brothers, Sylvester, Don, Jerome and Joseph; her sister, Evelyn; a daughter-in-law, Lori; two grandsons, Justin and Travis and a great-granddaughter, Marianna.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen (Jeff) Arthur of Canton, GA, Karen (Dave) Munk of Dell Rapids, SD, Roger (Teri) Rave of Crooks, SD, Robert (Deb) Rave of Dandridge, TN, Terry (Brenda) Rave of Lead, SD, Mary (Ken) Dressen of Baraboo, WI, Rose (Bruce) Volden of Canistota,  SD, Kay Rave of Walker, MN and Bill (Lynda)Rave of Brookings, SD; 36 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildern; brothers, Vince (Barbara) Ahlers and Arn (Bonnie) Ahlers; many nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
