I am sad to hear this news. I have very fond memories of Mr. Mortvedt. Having four daughters of my own I often think about him and how he raised his. He modeled many things and helped me with my physics homework more than once. He was a gentle and patient teacher and the only thing I remember that riled him was when he was watching football. I lost my dad several years ago and know how hard this can be. I pray for the family and hope you know how many people remember him the way I do.

John and I often talked about the time we accidentally met each other for the first time at O'Hare Airport in the mid 1980s. We sat together and struck up a conversation that turned to our SDSU ties. Then we later crossed paths at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He was a fine man and will be missed.

One of my fondest memories growing up happened at the farm when John first buzzed the house and then landed his plane in the stubble field. Grandma darn near had a heart attack. Grandpa & John just stood there and laughed and laughed. John enriched everyone's life each and every day. God has a skilled co-pilot now.

Remembering John What wisps of snow wouldn’t do to help sooth a soul right now John would want this warm March day to work in the yard Preparing for spring to green up the grass He’d be raking the brown hoping to see the new shoots He’d be resting on the handle outwardly admiring inwardly resting He’d pause when I walked by ready to exchange highlights -- the weather, the gutters, the weeds, the never-ending outside chores that were a delight to him He gave me pause, too, Reminding me hellos are so much more than hello What wisps of snow wouldn’t do to help sooth my soul right now Godspeed, John, and Hello

Do you know that if you Google John Mortvedt you get only one person in the US with that name? How fitting that no on else would have the name of this wonderful unique person. I have many fine memories of "chats at the fence" and in the yard when we were neighbors. I could always depend on John for insightful discussions about anything, including projects around the house. I was truly blessed to move in to a house next door to the Mortvedt family. This is a loss that I really feel, even across so many miles.
