Richard Rudolph Vorel

Dick Vorel, age 79 was accepted in to Heaven on Tuesday July 18, 2017 at his residence on Lake Herman.  A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Kahler - Dolce Mortuary in Papillion, Nebraska at 11:00 a.m.

He was born on March 17, 1938 in Omaha, Ne. to Rudy and Gladys Vorel. Met the love of his life Dorothy M. Smith and they were wed on December 7, 1958. To this union, 5 children were born and they made their home in the Omaha area. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Coast Guard for several years. He was a talented craftsmen and built many homes for his family and enjoyed all types of construction. He joined the Omaha Fire Department in 1964 and served the Omaha community until his retirement in 1995, after 31 years. After his retirement, they moved to South Dakota where they enjoyed life living on Lake Herman. He kept busy with all his hobbies through out the years. He was an avid coin collector, loved working with wood, creating many types of wood toys for his grandchildren and others. Fish breeding was a hobby that led to the sale of many Oscars to local pet stores. He returned to his favorite hobby, beekeeping, making honey which he sold on a self serve stand out of his garage.

Dick was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy Vorel; parents, Rudy and Gladys Vorel; siblings, Butch Vorel and Patricia Conrad.

He is survived by children, Vicki (Mark) Leonard, Richard M. Vorel, Michael Vorel, Kathy (Gary) Plagmann and Lori (Jim) Klostermeyer; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn (Ted) Caniglia; many nieces and nephews and numerous beloved friends.
