Suzanne Valerie Loen Berg, 36, of Wichita, KS, formerly of Sioux Falls, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, February 6, 2018, in Wichita. A Celebration of Suzanne’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 in Miller Funeral Home Southside Chapel in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be two hours prior to the start of the service.
Suzanne was born February 17, 1981, in Pierre to Douglas and Cindy (Rudy) Loen. She was a much loved and active child. During her early years, the family lived in Vermillion and settled in Sioux Falls. She graduated from O’Gorman High School in 1999, where she was active in many school activities. She obtained her bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Minnesota in Mankato. Suzanne loved the art of communication and it’s many forms.
Suzanne and William (Bill) Berg were married May 20, 2005, at Holy Spirit Church in Sioux Falls. While they lived in the Minneapolis area, Suzanne taught communication at several schools. She went on to earn her PhD in Communication from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Suzanne found the perfect job at Newman University in Wichita, Kan. where she was an Associate Professor of Communication. She embraced the campus, and in turn, they embraced her. She was active at the University and in the Wichita community. She strove to have equality for all people and saw the good in everyone.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; children, William, and Lorelei; parents, Douglas and Cindy Loen; sister, Elizabeth (Dan) Nelich; grandparents, James and Marlene Rudy, and Carl Taylor; and her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom she loved fiercely.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents.
