Vera Klein, 80, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. Her Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Kahler Funeral Home. The family will be present from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. A Catholic Order of Foresters rosary will be prayed after the wake.
Vera Marie Girard was born on October 16, 1936 at Vermillion, SD, the daughter of Albert and Ida (Rabusch) Girard. She grew up and attended school in Vermillion. She attended nursing school at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, graduating in August of 1962. She then started her nursing career at the Vermillion hospital. She married Robert John Klein on June 1, 1962 in Vermillion at St. Agnes Catholic Church. The couple made their home on the Klein family farm north of Dell Rapids. After taking time off to raise their children, Vera went to work as a nurse at the Dell Rapids Hospital. She worked there for 20 years until her retirement. In 1991, Robert and Vera moved into town. Robert passed away in 2000. Vera remained in her home.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society, the Catholic Order of Foresters and volunteered at Padres.
Vera enjoyed playing cards, fishing and camping with her family, spending time with her grandchildren and her many pets.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, an infant daughter and her husband.
Vera is survived by her son, Raymond of Dell Rapids; her daughters, Carol Klein of Dell Rapids, Patty Osborne of Sioux Falls and Joan (Jason) Wanzek of Bloomington, MN; her five grandchildren, Adam (Nicole) Osborne, Paige Osborne, Tyler Wanzek, Zach Wanzek and Sam Wanzek and her three great grandchildren, Peyton and Kylie Osborne and Brantly Friesen and her many nieces, nephews and extended family.
