Betty A. Bunkers

Betty Bunkers, 94, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024 under hospice care at her daughter's home. Her Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 in St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, June 24, 2024 with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Catholic Daughters Rosary in the church.

Betty Ann Anderson was born on July 2, 1929 near Huntimer, South Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Verena (Heinemann) Anderson. She grew up and attended school in Dell Rapids. After  high school she attended school in Sioux Falls for book keeping. She married Donald Bunkers on April 12, 1950. The couple made their home for a short time on a farm north of Dell Rapids until moving onto their farm east of town. As the children grew older, Betty started working at Hertz Car Rental, Dr. Merkley’s office and then went to work as the office manager for LG Everist from 1971- 2001. Donald passed away in 1995. Betty remained on the farm until 2012 when she moved to Pierre with her daughter.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Pierre Senior Citizen Center, the Pierre Meals on Wheels and the Pierre YMCA. She enjoyed knitting, find a word, puzzles, traveling with her sisters, ceramics, building bird house and painting.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Janet, an infant daughter, three infant sons, two brothers and two sisters.

Betty is survived by her children, Joe (Linda) Bunkers of Caledonia, IL, Jane (Chuck) Turner of Pierre, Judie Bunkers of Anchorage, AK, Jeanine (David) Penning of Renner, John (Kim) Bunkers of Dell Rapids, Jerry (Michelle) Bunkers of Dell Rapids, Jerome (Tammy) Bunkers of Longmont, CO and Joel (Carol) Bunkers of Dell Rapids; her 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
