Connie M. Megard

Connie Mae Megard passed away peacefully with her husband and her children at her side the evening of June 17, 2023. Her funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Sherman. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.

Connie was born on March 12, 1941, the daughter of Phillip and Hazel Hirmer in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up all over the United States and Germany moving with her family following her dad’s military career. She met the love of her life, Stuart Megard, and the couple married on February 14, 1963 at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Sherman. They made their home on the Megard farm where they raised their two children. When her children graduated from school, she went to work at Terrace Manor in Dell Rapids as a nurses aide until her retirement. 

She was a member of Highland Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed reading, watching her favorite TV shows, sewing, cooking, baking, and canning. Connie welcomed all who came into her home, whether she was hosting family, a neighbor, or local hunter, all guests were greeted with her warm hospitality. She enjoyed having her 6 grandchildren stay with her on the farm, pampering them with bubble baths and spoiling them with a cold root beer float. Telling stories and spending time with loved ones was something she cherished. Connie often spent her days sitting on her deck while bird watching. Her favorite bird to watch was the Cardinal. 

She spent her last years at Dells Nursing & Rehab Center. She looked forward to her visits with Stuart and all the staff knew of the love they shared. Her loving devotion will be remembered by many upon seeing their next Cardinal. Connie is preceded in death by her twin sister, Carol, and brother, Jim. 

She is survived by her husband, Stuart Megard, of Jasper, MN; her daughter, Debra (Roger) Koens, of Dell Rapids; her son, Craig (Mary Kay), of Mankato, MN; her six grandchildren; her six great-grandchildren; and her brother, Jerry (Sherry) Hirmer, of Kansas City, MO.
