Darlene L. Reit

Darlene Reit, 91, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center in Dell Rapids. Her funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024 in the Methodist Church of Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Valley Springs. Visitation with the family present will be on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Darlene Powell was born on September 15, 1932, the daughter of Frank and Alice (Blood) Powell in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the fifth of eight children. She moved with her family following her dad’s employment to Oregon at a young age. The family moved back to Garretson, SD where she attended school and graduated from Garretson High School in 1951. After graduation she got a job in Sioux Falls. She met Stanley “Jump” Reit. They married on January 13, 1956. The couple made their home on different farms near Garretson until buying their farm north of Colman. In 1983, they moved into Dell Rapids where Darlene started working at the Odd Fellows home. They moved to Sioux Falls for a short time where Darlene worked at the Crippled Children’s Home. She moved back to Dell Rapids in 1996. Jump passed away on February 3, 1997. Darlene remained in Dell Rapids until the time of her death.

She was a member of the Methodist Church of Dell Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, 3 sisters, an infant daughter, Lynn Marie, an infant granddaughter, Alison and a daughter-in-law, Vicki.

Darlene is survived by her children, Donna (Mike) Lueders, Wayne (Sheree) Reit, Joan (Jeff) Boldt and Alan (Donna) Reit; her 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson; her sister, Doris Hoiland and her extended family.
