Donald "Don" Klein

Donald "Don" Klein, 80, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the Sanford USD Medical Center and Hospital in Sioux Falls. His Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home with the Christian Wake Service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Donald “Don” Klein was born on January 4, 1946 in Dell Rapids, SD, the son of Art and Irene (Lamberty) Klein. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Mary Schools graduating in 1964.  He then attended SDSU for a couple of years before working for Egger Steel. He married Cheryl Thraen on April 26, 1969. The couple lived in Sioux Falls before moving to Dell Rapids in 1978.  Don started working for Modern Press which was later named CCL in 1969. He continued to work there until his retirement in 2012. 

Don was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Dell Rapids Optimist Club, Midwest Tools, Missouri Valley Wrench Club and Hardwood Kollectors Klub. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and antiquing. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Stacey Sorensen in 2013 and daughter-in-law, Heather in 2016; his brothers, Danny Klein, Chuck Klein and Thomas Klein and sisters-in-law, Rosie Klein, Judi Klein and Delores Klein.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Dell Rapids, his son, Chris Klein of Colton; his granddaughters, Gillian and Elizabeth Klein of Colton, his son-in-law, Jeff Sorensen, Melvin Iowa; his siblings, Dick Klein, Dell Rapids, Art (Joan) Klein, Colorado Springs, CO, Jerry Klein, Dell Rapids, Dave (Barb) Klein, Dell Rapids, Betty (Tom) Goddard, Sturgis, Butch (Connie) Klein, Dell Rapids, Virg (JoEllen) Klein, Dell Rapids, Steve (Bridget) Klein, Sioux Falls, Sue (Scott) Ahlers, Dell Rapids, and Judy (Doug) Swartz, Baltic; sisters-in-law; Sue Klein, Dell Rapids, Robyn Lubben and Candice Curtis both of MN; his nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives and friends.
