Gregory "Greg" J. Mertz

Gregory J. Mertz Jr., 44, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025. A Memorial Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home with a Prayer Service starting at 7:00 p.m.

Greg was born on November 30, 1980 in Dell Rapids, SD, to his parents, Gregory Sr. and Robyn Mertz. He grew up and attended school in Dell Rapids. While in school he enjoyed playing both football and basketball and playing pick-up basketball games at the old elementary school. In high school he started working for Lyle Frederickson doing landscaping. After school he started working construction. He was most recently working for T&R construction. In 2018, Greg had an accident at work where he was electrocuted.

Greg was a loner who enjoyed his privacy but when he was in the mood he enjoyed having a good time and hanging out with friends and family. He was a workaholic and truly enjoyed working. He loved dogs and always had a big smile that will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his grandma, Edna and her husband, Gene Stageberg; his father, Gregory Mertz Sr., his uncle, Tony and his great-niece, Lilah.

He is survived by his mother, Robyn Moser of Sioux Falls; his sister, Samantha Mertz of Chester; his special niece, Synthia; his half brother, Jim Mertz of Sioux Falls; his many nieces and nephews; his aunts, Nancy Eulberg of Dell Rapids and Susan Lucas of Champaign, IL; his uncles, Gregory Turner of Baltic and Micheal Turner of Renner and his extended family.
