Henry Zwart Obituary

Henry G. Zwart, 90, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids. Visitation will be on Friday, January 3, 2025 with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the church hall. The Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow in the church.

Henry George Zwart was born on March 9, 1934, near Winfred, South Dakota, the son of Case and Elsie (Whitsell) Zwart. He grew up on a farm near Howard and graduated from Howard High School in 1952. He enlisted in the US Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956.

Henry met the love of is life, Lola Eisenbeis, from Madison, SD when they were 16 years old. They married on August 10, 1956, and made their first home in Davenport, IA.

The couple moved back to Madison, SD in 1959 and to Dell Rapids, SD in 1969 where Henry had the Standard Oil Jobber-ship and then owned the Log Cabin Tavern in Sioux Falls. He sold the Tavern in 1994 when he retired. Henry and Lola moved to the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center in December of 2021. Lola died on October 23, 2023.

Henry was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a 66-year member of the Dell Rapids American Legion. Henry loved travel and had an enthusiastic travel companion in Lola. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his 13 children, 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bob and Bill, sisters Francella, Nancy, Ellen, and Carrie, his son Randall, and wife, Lola.

Two sisters, Alvina and Susie survive him.

He is survived by his children, Regina Allor, (husband Jim), and their sons Justin and Russell;  Rebecca Zwart; Henry Zwart Jr, (wife Sherry); Roger Zwart, son Casey, daughter Brianna Daiker, (husband Chris), and their daughter Kimber and son Brooks; Randall’s wife Daria, their daughter Jessica Hewitt, (husband Randy), and their son Maddex, and daughter Brooklyn; a son Ross, and his son Parker; daughter Alina Weitkamp, (husband Josh);  daughter Cassidy Dickerson (husband Michael), and their daughter Mackenzie; Richard Zwart (wife Sandra), and their son, Gregg (wife Darci) and daughter Leah, son Brad, (wife Erica); Roberta Zwart, her son James, (wife Amanda) and their daughter, Ainsley and son Xander, a daughter Laura; Robert Zwart, his daughter, Hollie Spilger (husband Nick) and great-grandsons, Cassius and Rory; Anthony Zwart and his son Collin (wife Erin), daughter Carley Haskell (husband Tyler) and their son, Samuel; Daniel Zwart and his daughters, Jalen and Jolee; Christopher Zwart (his wife, Lisa) and their daughter Ella; Victoria Hanson, (husband Michael), and their son, Arthur, and daughter Gwen; and Sandra Sever, her daughter Zaida, and sons, Joseph and Henry.
