James "Jim" R. Peters

James "Jim" Peters,  83, of Dell Rapids, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 7, 2020. His Memorial Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the start of the service.

James “Jim” Peters was born on July 13, 1937 at White Lake, SD, the son of Matt and Ella (Davis) Peters. He grew up on a farm near White Lake and attended country school. When he was finished with school, he enlisted in the US Army. He married Judy Morris on April 25, 1962 in Vermillion. Jim was discharged from the Army  in 1963 and the couple moved to Platte where  Jim did carpentry work. In 1969, the family moved to Dell Rapids where Jim started working road construction until his retirement in 2005.

Jim loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his four brothers, Arlo, Keith, Don and Phil.

He is survived by his wife, Judy of Dell Rapids; his daughter, Shelli Ybarra of Dell Rapids; his sons, Jamie (Liz) Peters of KS and Joey (Cari) Peters of Dell Rapids; his 8 grandchildren, Robbie, Nichole, Thomas, Kelsi, Sarah, Zac, Madison and McKenzie; his five great-grandchildren, McKenna, Olivia, Ayden, Sam and Chase; his two sisters, Karen Miller of IL and Mary (Dudley) Haarsager of Yankton and his many nieces and nephews.
