James "Jim" E. Wittenhagen

James "Jim" Wittenhagen, 87, of Wentworth, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022 at the Madison Regional Health System. His funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home. 

James “Jim” Wittenhagen  was born on September 2, 1935 in Epiphany, SD, the youngest of four children. He grew up in Carthage where he enjoyed playing baseball. At the age of 16 he started working for the railroad for 16 years. He married Imogene Shaffer on June 2, 1956. He sold livestock feed for 22 years for Hubbard Milling, 4 years for the Marion Elevator and part-time for the Humboldt Farmers Elevator for 15 years. He worked part-time for McGreevy clinic for 15 years. He married Dianna Hauglid on March 6, 1995. The couple made their home on the Lakes Golf Course near Lake Madison.

Jim enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, playing softball into his 50’s and golfing into his 80’s.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Catheryn (Scheuren) Wittenhagen, his son, Douglas, his sister, Lila and his brother, Delmar.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna; his children, Craig (Camille) Wittenhagen; Diane Wittenhagen and Jeffrey (Sandi) Wittenhagen; his step-children, Katie (Dennis) Wrage, Daniel (Shari) Hauglid and Kari (Aaron) Geraets; his grandchildren, Nic Wittenhagen, Jennifer (Jeff) Fuchs, Hillary (Reed) Parry, Lindsey Wittenhagen, Jordon (Paige) Wittenhagen, Megan Wittenhagen, Ethan (Kaitlyn) Wittenhagen, Callie Wittenhagen; his step-grandchildren, Nicole (Gregory) Hanson, Shelby (Riley) Wrage, Cooper Hauglid, Mara Hauglid, Mitchell (Sam) Geraets and Sawyer Geraets; his great-grandchildren, Evie, AJ, Isla, Miles, Parker and Abby; his sister, Della Banks; his brother-in-law, Donald Albertson and his sister-in-law, Joyce Wittenhagen.
