Leonard "Leo" Erickson

Leonard "Leo" Erickson, 81, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at his home. His funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.

Leonard L. Erickson was born on December 9, 1941 the son of Viola and Louie Erickson in Waubay S.D., where he grew up and graduated High School in 1960. Leo’s roofing career brought him to Sioux Falls SD in 1964 where he met and married Gale Handwerk on September 25, 1965.

In 1970 he started his Welding Career at Egger Steel, in which he retired from in 2003. In 1979 he moved with his family to Dell Rapids SD, where he got his biggest joy from watching his grandchildren, spreading his sense of humor while gathering with family and friends. He also enjoyed bowling, playing pool, throwing horseshoes and rides in the country.

Leo died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday January 28, 2023. He was 81 and preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, one sister Gloria Stanley and one brother Don Erickson.

Leo is survived by his children, Jason Erickson of Dell Rapids, Olynn Erickson of Davis, Wayde Handwerk of Sioux Falls, and Pamela (Rodney) Kramer of Sioux Falls; his four grandchildren, Haley, Brandon, and Micah Erickson and Rachel (Jerry) Tammen; his three great-grandchildren, Keira, Addie, and Parker Tammen,; sisters, Joan Thiel, Joyce Moss, and Glenda (Tom) Wika; brothers, Jake (Eileen) Erickson, Bill (Deb) Erickson and Larry (Lisa) Erickson.
