Lois is survived by her children, Vernon Haugaard and wife, Karen of Papillion, NE, Helen Williamson and  husband, Dean of Garretson and Steven Haugaard and wife, Mary of Sioux Falls; three brothers; Derry Frederickson of Imboden, AR, Maynard Frederickson of Baytown, TX, Lyle Frederickson of Dell Rapids, and her sister, Wanda Shaffner Lindholm of Chester;  her 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded, in death, by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Andy and Louise Frederickson, her husband, Harry Haugaard, and one child, Linda Lou Haugaard.

Lois was born on November 18, 1923 on the farm east of Chester, South Dakota, to Andy and Louise Frederickson. She graduated from Chester High School (Valedictorian) in 1941, and was accepted to attend Augustana College.  Her parents didn’t have the money to send her to college, so she took a job at Northwestern National Bank in Madison, South Dakota, as the Bond and Title clerk.  She married her high school sweetheart, Harry, in Belton, Texas on January 27, 1945, just before he left for the Philippine’s, during WWII.  After WWII, they purchased a home at Orland, South Dakota, where they farmed for the next 40 years. Lois went to work in 1958 at Wenk’s Produce in Madison, to make ends meet on the farm.  In 1967, she went to work at Spies Grocery in Madison, where she worked for the next twenty years. When Harry died in 1986, she moved to her new home at Lake Madison where she lived for the next 20 years.  In 1988, she went to work at Glacial Lakes and Prairies Tourism selling advertising space in the South DakotaGlacial Lakes magazine.  Lois was president of the Lake County Extension “Hustling Housewives” for many years, shop steward of the Retail Clerks Union at Spies Grocery for 10 years, and president of South Dakota’s AFL/CIO Amalgamated Meat Cutters for 10  years.

Lois was an active and dedicated member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, for 60 years, and often volunteered to teach Sunday school.

Lois always encouraged her children to speak up, stand their ground, and pursue their goals.

Lois loved growing flowers, cutting hair, bragging about her children and grandchildren, traveling, and being with friends.  During the recent few years, she had the opportunity to live with each of her children for at least a year.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lois’s life.
