Lucille “Lucy” Boeve, 90, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. Her Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 in St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home with the Christian Wake Service beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Lucille “Lucy” was born on January 3, 1935, the daughter of Merle and Mareen (Mitchell) Watters in Decatur, NE. While growing up she lived in Lead where she worked at a bed and breakfast with her mother. She later moved with her family to Canton where she worked at the local drug store and rented a room for $3.50 a week at age 13. She married Alvin Mersch in 1953, to this union three daughters were born, Kathy, Diane and Debra. She lived in Sioux Falls from 1953 to 1969 when she moved to Dell Rapids and owned and operated Bud and Lucy’s from 1969-1976. She worked at Manchester Biscuit Company, Ravens from 1973-1980 and bartended for many years. She married Avor “Sam” Boeve in 2003. She then worked at her daughters’ quilt shop until the time of her death.
Lucy loved sewing, flowers, bird watching, cats and reading. She sewed many quilts through out the years for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved watching her grandkids in sports, especially baseball and always wanted to know what the boys were doing on the farm.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Phyllis and Carol, her brother, Steve, her grandson, Michael and her husband Sam.
Lucy is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Michael) Bolt of Madison, Diane (Jeff) Bunkers of Garretson and Debra (Doug) Mergen of Dell Rapids; her 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her step-daughter, Barbara of Corvallis,OR; her brothers, Donny (Lois) Watters of Jasper, MN and Jerry (Cher) Watters of Sioux Falls; two-step grandchildren her extended family and friends.
