Marietta Maxine Schreier was born December 17, 1928 on a farm near Dell Rapids, South Dakota to Adam and Mary (Phelps) Schreier. Marietta attended country school and St. Mary’s Academy.
At a young age, Marietta moved to Sioux Falls to waitress. On November 7, 1949 she married the love of her life Stanley J Nelson in Dell Rapids. They farmed near Baltic and Dell Rapids until 1994 when they moved to town and retired. While on the farm, she worked hard side by side with her husband and waitressed for different establishments. This union was blessed with one daughter Sherry, whom they cherished greatly.
Marietta’s Catholic faith was the foundation in her life, which carried on to her family. She was a member of the St. Anthony Altar Society Group. She was an excellent cook and homemaker, feeding anyone and everyone who came to her door. The Veterinarian would always seem to want work Stanley’s cattle around dinner time. Marietta made the best cakes; her specialty was homemade German Chocolate cake.
In retirement, Marietta’s favorite pastime was going on drives with Stanley, playing cards with friends and neighbors, traveling, shopping, getting her hair done, volunteering at Padres, and spending time with her two grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life is her daughter, Sherry (Dale) Sovell; grandchildren Ashley and Dereck Sovell of Ivanhoe Minnesota; three nephews, Michael (Vicky) Schreier of Lexington, Kentucky, Lance Schreier of Charles City, Iowa, and Tim Schreier of Hoboken, New Jersey; two nieces, Teresa (David) Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Janet (Jim) May of Maple Grove, Minnesota; and other family members and friends.
