Merle A. Alberts

Merle A. Alberts, 85, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at his home. His funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 in The Reformed Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Logan Reformed Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 7: 00 p.m. at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Merle was born on September 11, 1938, the son of Herman and Marvel (Johnson) Alberts. He grew up on a farm near Jasper and attended country school. He enlisted in the US Army Reserves and began farming and milking cows. He married Faith Scherff on March 25, 1961. The couple made their home on a farm near Trent. In 1969, they moved to their farm between Dell Rapids and Jasper. Merle and Faith moved into Dell Rapids in 2007. Faith passed away on April 5, 2017. Merle remained in his home until the time of his death.

He was a member of The Reformed Church and served on the church consistory.

Merle enjoyed bowling, wood working, having coffee with his friends and taking drives throughout the countryside checking out the crops.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his two brothers, Arnold and Gene.

Merle is survived by his children, Kevin (Trudy) Alberts of Dell Rapids, Kathy (Jeff) McBrayer of Sioux Falls, Kimberly (John) Stych of Dell Rapids and Keith (Alissa) Alberts of Brandon; his grandchildren, Andrew Alberts, Austin (Jackie) Alberts, Zach (Jill) McBrayer, Josh (Ema) McBrayer, Samantha (Collin) Citrowske, Daniel Alberts, Aaron Alberts, Benjamin Alberts and Kenan Alberts and Claire Murrin; his seven, soon to be eight great-grandchildren and his sister, Ellen Carroll.
