Norman N. Nielsen

Norman N. Nielsen, 94, of Renner, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the Veterans Medical Center in Sioux Falls. A graveside service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at East Nidaros Cemetery, rural Baltic.

Norman N. Nielsen was born on January 4, 1929 in Dell Rapids, SD, the son of Christian and Ana (Anderson) Nielsen. He grew up in the Dell Rapids and Baltic area. He attended Kringen Country School until moving to Baltic where he graduated from Baltic High School in 1946. He was drafted into the US Army in 1951 where he served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He then returned home to farm. He married Vera Skals on December 2, 1956. The couple made their home on the family farm, south of Baltic for over 34 years. Norman retired from farming in 1990 and the couple built their home near Renner. Norman drove school bus for Baltic for 8 years. He remained in his home until his death.

He was a member of East Nidaros Lutheran Church and the VFW in Sioux Falls.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Shirley Snoozy and his granddaughter, Jessica.

Norman is survived by his wife of 67 years, Vera of Renner; his sons, Jim (Colleen) of Baltic and Tony (Laurie) of Minneapolis, MN; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Jazzmyn and Cody.
