Norris Brobjorg

Norris "Norby" Brobjorg, 74, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the Avera Dells Area Hospital. His funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 in the East Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Baltic. Visitation will be two hours prior to the start of the service at the church. Interment will be in the East Nidaros Cemetery.

Norris Philip Brobjorg was born on March 15, 1950, in Sioux Falls, SD to Ernest and Helen Brobjorg (Wickstrom). He attended Baltic High School where his classmates voted him “Mr. Irresistable”. He graduated in 1968. Upon graduating high school, he served in the Air National Guard for 10 years while working at the Baltic Elevator. He also drove truck during this time.

In 1980, Norris began his lifelong career of 35 years at L.G. Everist. He was in their Maintenance of Way, Railroad Division, where he eventually became a supervisor. He loved “working on the railroad” and was very proud of his work there.

On June 24, 1977 Norris was united in marriage to Deb Smith. Their first home was in Baltic, SD. They soon moved to a farm outside Baltic before they ended up on Clark Street in Dell Rapids, SD where they raised their three children; Doug, Dayna and Danielle. In 2016, Norris and Deb moved to their current home in Dell Rapids.

In 2001, Norris and Deb opened Norby’s in Dell Rapids, SD. This was an exciting time for them. Norris served as Vice President of the corporation and played an integral role in getting the business up and running. Throughout the years, he contributed in many different aspects and helped where needed.

After 35 years at L.G. Everist, Norris retired in 2016. After retiring, he worked part-time mowing at Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids, SD until an injury ended his time there.

Norris was a kind man who was well-liked by all who knew him. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a family man and cherished his grandchildren.

Norris and Deb spent the summer months at their camper on Lake Thompson near Desmet, SD for many years. While camping, he loved fishing and socializing with friends throughout the campground. He enjoyed playing cards; his favorite games were Pepper and Cribbage. Norris loved to sit back and watch what was going on around him. After retirement, he enjoyed relaxing and watching Westerns and his favorite Soap Opera’s, Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful.

Grateful for having shared his life are his loving wife of 47 years, Deb; three children, Doug Ehrmantraut (Justine) of Baltic, SD, Dayna Peterson (Aaron) of Howard Lake, MN, and Danielle Bunkers (Cody) of Garretson, SD; 7 grandchildren, Alexis, Auston, Lucy, Gauge, Dawson, Cale, and Elly; brothers Nils Brobjorg (Darla) of Altus, OK, Lyle Brobjorg (Veronica) of Dell Rapids, SD; sister Kristie Lohrman (David) of Baltic, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Brobjorg.
