Robert "Bob" R. Sorsen

Robert "Bob" Sorsen, 91, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Dell Rapids, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Dougherty Hospice House. His Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids. Visitation with the family present will be on Monday, July 1, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home. The Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Robert (Bob) Raymond Sorsen was born on April 13, 1928, to George and Mae (Hey) Sorsen in Dell Rapids, SD. Eventually the family moved to White, where Bob graduated from high school in 1946. After graduation, Bob chose to serve his country by enlisting in the Army; he spent 18 months, including time in Japan, before receiving an honorable discharge. Upon his return home, he moved back to White and began a distinguished career as a truck driver. He soon landed in Sioux Falls and began driving truck for John Morrell; he retired after 30 years of dedicated service and too many miles to mention. Bob married the love of his life, Bonnie Lail, on October 10, 1970, at Little Flower Catholic Church; this union forged two families together into one, eventually totaling seven children. The couple remained in Sioux Falls until 1986, when then headed north to Dell Rapids. After his retirement from John Morrell, Bob filled his days by driving school bus for the Dell Rapids school system and mowing at both the Dells and Madison golf courses. Bob and Bonnie made their way to Baltic in 2008 and then to Sioux Falls, when both he and Bonnie would last reside prior to meeting Jesus some 70 days apart, together again.

Bob was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dell Rapids, the Dell Rapids American Legion Post and the VFW. Sorespot, as was affectionately known to many, enjoyed playful banter with most everyone he met, and loved to cheer on his Minnesota Twins.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, two grandchildren and his beloved wife, Bonnie.

He is survived by his children Jeff Sorsen, Aloma (Bob) Graham, Michone (Paul) Collins, Rick Lail, Vern (Dana) Lail, Jill Sorsen and Tabitha (Ryan) Merriam; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
