Vivian A. Haak, 86, of Trent, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Her Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 in the Reformed Church, Dell Rapids. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home.
Vivian Audrey Carlson was born on October 24, 1939 the daughter of C. Theodore and Marilda (Pederson) Carlson. She grew up and attended school in Trent. She graduated from Trent High School in 1957. After high school she worked as a dental assistant. She married Gerald Haak on November 8, 1959 at the Trent Baptist Church. The couple moved to the Haak family farm where they raised their four children. When the children were grown, she started working for the Dell Rapids School District. She worked for the district for 17 years, retiring in 2006.
She was a member of the Reformed Church of Dell Rapids and the Women’s Circle. She enjoyed wintering in Arizona, reading, gardening and flowers. She cherished time spent with grandchildren and family.
Vivian is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lorraine (Ronald) Utech and her sister-in-law, Agnes Carlson.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gerald Haak of Trent; her children, Lynelle (Scott) Bieber of Dakota Dunes, Loren (Gina) Haak of Yankton, Gary (Thelma) Haak of Dell Rapids and Jason (Laurie) Haak of Troy, OH; her 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her brother, Roger Carlson of AZ and her sister Joyce (Clarence) Rave of Wentworth and her extended family.
